Исследовательский вопрос

Can everyone — including keyboard, screen-reader, low-vision and less-confident users — actually complete a salon's public online booking, across the four markets?

Охват

A technical accessibility audit of the PUBLIC online booking journey against testable WCAG 2.2 criteria, plus booking-specific usability signals. It is a technical UX audit, not a legal-compliance verdict, and it never completes a real booking.

Период

2026 — single annual edition.

Рынки

Czechia, Poland, Germany, Slovakia. (A European result is not assumed to hold for markets not sampled.) — Чехия, Польша, Германия, Словакия

Целевая совокупность

Salons exposing any public online booking path (own booking page or marketplace) across business types in the four markets.

Планируемая выборка

Target 300–600 booking journeys, distributed across countries and salon types. The final number is disclosed only after testing.

Критерии включения

  • Salons that expose any public online booking path (own booking page or marketplace).
  • Across business types and across own-booking vs marketplace channels.

Критерии исключения

  • Phone- or DM-only salons (no public online flow to test) — counted separately, not scored as inaccessible.
  • Test/staging pages.

Сбор данных

  • We test only the PUBLIC booking process and never complete a real booking or submit personal data.
  • Each journey is checked against testable WCAG 2.2 criteria and booking-specific signals: keyboard navigation and no keyboard trap, visible focus, colour contrast, text resize/reflow, form labels and instructions, error identification and suggestion, screen-reader name/role/value on controls, target size, whether pinch-zoom is disabled, date-picker usability, required-field count, guest booking (no forced account), and time limits on holding a slot.
  • Automated checks (contrast, labels, zoom meta) are combined with a scripted manual pass (keyboard-only and screen-reader spot checks) — automation alone cannot judge accessibility.

Система оценки

Each journey scores 0–100 — the Accessible Booking Score, grouped by WCAG 2.2 principle plus booking usability. Two derived indices are reported alongside it: the Cognitive Friction Score (required fields, steps, time limits, guest booking, error recovery) and the Mobile Booking Score (target size, zoom, reflow, mobile readability). Direction is fixed: 100 = anyone can complete it; 0 = effectively unusable for the tested user group.

100 = anyone can complete the booking; 0 = effectively unusable.

Система оценки%
Keyboard & focus (Operable)20Full keyboard navigation, no keyboard trap, Visible focus indicator
Contrast & text (Perceivable)20Sufficient colour contrast, Text resizes/reflows; form fields have visible labels
Instructions & errors (Understandable)20Clear instructions and understandable labels, Errors are identified with a suggestion to fix
Screen-reader & structure (Robust)15Controls expose name/role/value, Meaningful heading/structure for assistive tech
Target size & mobile zoom15Target size adequate; pinch-zoom not disabled, Content reflows on a narrow screen
Cognitive load & flexibility10Minimal required fields; guest booking possible, No hard time limit; mistakes can be corrected

Формулы

  • Accessible Booking Score: Σ dimension scores (0–100, higher = more accessible)
  • Cognitive Friction Score: index of cognitive-load indicators (0–100, higher = less friction)
  • Mobile Booking Score: index of mobile indicators (0–100, higher = better on a phone)

Пропущенные данные

A criterion that cannot be reached (e.g. the flow breaks before the form) is recorded with its reason, not silently passed or failed; the broken-flow rate is reported.

Контроль качества

  • A written checklist maps each signal to the specific WCAG 2.2 success criterion it tests.
  • A random subset is re-tested with a second assistive-tech setup; disagreements are reconciled.
  • Automated and manual results are stored separately so the manual override is auditable.

Возможные искажения

  • Automated tooling detects only a subset of barriers; manual testing covers more but is sampled, so some issues are missed.
  • One tester's assistive-tech configuration is not identical to every real user's.

Ограничения

  • This is a technical UX audit against WCAG 2.2 criteria — NOT a statement that a site is legally compliant or non-compliant with any accessibility law.
  • Public flows only; phone/DM booking is out of scope.
  • No salon is named as 'least accessible'; only aggregated data and anonymized examples are published.

Конфиденциальность

  • No real bookings are completed and no personal data is submitted.
  • Only aggregated results and anonymized screenshots are published.

Политика исправлений

A named system may request a correction with evidence before or after publication; verified corrections are logged.

Политика обновлений

Annual edition; the change log records every update and correction.
